Howa 1500 Fence Line Rifles

The Fence Line series is Howa’s working rifle. Each one has a Cerakote barreled action in Burnt Bronze or Flat Dark Earth, a camo synthetic stock in Prairie Reaper or Scorched Earth, a threaded barrel with a muzzle brake and the HACT two-stage trigger. We have 18 Howa 1500 Fence Line Rifles in stock, priced from $588 to $718.

Why choose Howa 1500 Fence Line Rifles

It’s built for ranchers, predator hunters and anyone who keeps a rifle in the truck.

Every centerfire rifle here uses the Howa 1500 action family: a two-lug, one-piece bolt and a three-position safety whose middle setting lets you unload on safe. Howa builds it in Japan, and it has been in production since 1979.

For cartridge specs, SAAMI publishes the industry standards. If you’re buying for a hunt, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hunting page links to public land and state agencies.

Where to start

Howa Fence Line 6.5 Grendel Scorched Earth ($588, the lowest price here): 22-inch threaded barrel and Scorched Earth camo synthetic stock. It’s built for ranchers, predator hunters and anyone who keeps a rifle in the truck.

Howa Fence Line 243 Win Scorched Earth ($626, a middle option): 22-inch threaded barrel and Scorched Earth camo synthetic stock. If your rifle rides in a truck, gets rained on and leans against fence posts, the Cerakote and camo stock are made for that life.

Howa Fence Line 300 Blackout Prairie Reaper ($718, the top of the range): 16.25-inch threaded barrel and Prairie Reaper camo synthetic stock. It’s built for ranchers, predator hunters and anyone who keeps a rifle in the truck.

Picking a caliber

  • 6mm ARC: best for deer, pronghorn and long-range targets
  • .243 Winchester: best for deer, pronghorn and varmints
  • .300 Blackout: best for hogs, deer at close range and suppressed shooting
  • 6.5 Grendel: best for deer, hogs and targets
  • 7.62x39mm: best for deer, hogs and targets
  • 6.5 Creedmoor: best for deer, black bear and long-range targets
  • .350 Legend: best for deer in straight-wall states
  • .308 Winchester: best for deer, hogs, black bear and targets
  • 7mm PRC: best for elk, mule deer and long-range targets

If you mostly shoot paper and steel, lean toward the 6.5s and 6mm ARC. For deer and black bear, the .308, 6.5 Creedmoor and 7mm-08 are hard to beat. For elk at distance, look at the 7mm PRC and magnums.

Ordering and pickup

Rifles ship to a licensed FFL dealer near you, not to your home. You’ll complete ATF Form 4473 and the background check when you pick it up. The ATF firearms Q&A covers the federal rules, and your state may add its own.
