Howa Fence Line 6.5 Grendel Scorched Earth features
The Fence Line series is the Howa 1500 dressed for the field. The barreled action gets a Cerakote finish, the synthetic stock comes in camo, and the threaded barrel ships with a muzzle brake.
The 1500 action is the reason Howa has such a following. It’s simple, strong and made in Japan, with a one-piece two-lug bolt and a three-position safety you can unload on.
The HACT (Howa Actuator Controlled Trigger) is a two-stage trigger. There’s a light take-up stage, then a crisp break, which makes it easier to shoot well from field positions. The barrel is threaded 1/2×28 at the muzzle and ships with a thread protector, ready for a brake or can. It ships with a muzzle brake installed, which noticeably cuts felt recoil and muzzle rise.
What the 6.5 Grendel is good for
The 6.5 Grendel came out of Alexander Arms in 2003 and was standardized through SAAMI in 2017. It packs 6.5mm bullets into a case short enough for AR-15 length magazines. It’s a capable deer round at moderate ranges and a very efficient target round, with good wind resistance for its size and light recoil.
Typical bullets run from 90 to 130 grains, with 120 to 123 grain loads being the most common. A 1:8 twist handles that whole range. For chamber and pressure specs, see the SAAMI centerfire rifle standard, or read the history of the 6.5 Grendel.

Who this rifle is for
If your rifle rides in a truck, gets rained on and leans against fence posts, the Cerakote and camo stock are made for that life.
Best 6.5 Grendel loads for this rifle
Try a few factory loads before you settle on one. Barrels have preferences, and a 20-minute test at the range tells you which load to buy in bulk. Hunting loads cost more, but they’re made to expand and hold together on game. Use them in the field and cheaper ammo for practice.
Hunting rules are set state by state. Start at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hunting page for federal lands, then check your state agency for seasons and caliber limits.
At the range
Plan a full session for the first trip. Get on paper at 25 yards, then zero at 100 and shoot a few groups so you know what the rifle and load can do. Once you’re zeroed, shoot from sitting and kneeling too, since that’s how most field shots happen.

Care and storage
Store the Howa Fence Line 6.5 Grendel Scorched Earth unloaded, in a dry place, with the magazine out. After rain or snow, dry it off and wipe the metal down before you case it. A clean, lightly oiled bore and tight action screws are most of what keeps a Howa shooting the way it did on day one.
