Why the Howa M1500 has such a following
Howa Machinery has built the M1500 in Japan since 1979. It’s a push-feed, two-lug action with a one-piece bolt, a forged and machined receiver and, on most models, a cold hammer-forged barrel. The parts list is short and the tolerances are tight, which is why it shoots well above its price.
- HACT two-stage trigger. A light take-up, then a clean break that makes field shots easier.
- Three-position safety. The middle setting lets you cycle the bolt and unload while the rifle stays on safe.
- Two action lengths. The standard 1500 for full-size cartridges and the Mini Action, about 12 percent shorter, for AR-sized rounds.
- Proven aftermarket. The footprint is shared with the Weatherby Vanguard, so stocks, rings and chassis are easy to find.

Howa 1500 calibers we stock
Most buyers start with the cartridge. The 6.5 Creedmoor and Howa 1500 308 are our two biggest groups, with 29 and 24 rifles in stock. The Mini Action covers the AR-sized rounds.
Not sure which round fits your hunting? SAAMI publishes the industry dimensions and pressures for every cartridge in its ANSI/SAAMI standards, and our Howa 1500 6.5 Creedmoor guide compares the most popular choice against the 308.
Howa Mini Action rifles
The Mini Action takes AR-sized cartridges like the 223, 6.5 Grendel, 6mm ARC and 7.62×39 and puts them in a short, light bolt gun. We carry 39 of them, from a Mini Action 223 Rem at $546 to walnut Mini Hunters and the Mini Excel Lite 6.5 Grendel in American Flag Cerakote.
It’s the Howa mini most people start with for deer stands, truck guns and new shooters. Our Howa mini action guide covers which caliber to pick.
Howa Superlite and Superlite 308
The Superlite is built for hunts with a lot of walking. Gen2 models weigh 4.9 lb with an HS Precision stock and a 20-inch threaded barrel. The Howa Superlite 308 is $961, and the carbon-stocked Super Lite versions add a Picatinny rail and Kryptek camo.
Short on space in the truck? The 16.25-inch Superlite 6.5 Creedmoor with Vortex scope is ready to zero out of the box.
