Inside the Howa Fence Line 6mm ARC 20 Inch
The Fence Line series is the Howa 1500 dressed for the field. The barreled action gets a Cerakote finish, the synthetic stock comes in camo, and the threaded barrel ships with a muzzle brake.
Every Howa 1500 starts with a forged and machined receiver and a one-piece bolt with two lugs. The three-position safety has a middle setting that lets you work the bolt to unload while the rifle stays on safe.
The HACT (Howa Actuator Controlled Trigger) is a two-stage trigger. There’s a light take-up stage, then a crisp break, which makes it easier to shoot well from field positions. The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28, so you can fit a brake, flash hider or suppressor where your state allows it. It ships with a muzzle brake installed, which noticeably cuts felt recoil and muzzle rise.

What the 6mm ARC is good for
Hornady designed the 6mm ARC (Advanced Rifle Cartridge) and released it in 2020. It’s based on the 6.5 Grendel case necked to 6mm and fits AR-15 length magazines. It gives long-range performance from a short, light action. Shooters use it for steel out past 800 yards, and with good hunting bullets it handles deer and pronghorn at sensible distances.
Factory loads use 103 to 108 grain high-BC bullets for target work and lighter bullets for hunting. A fast twist like 1:7.5 is what those long bullets need. For chamber and pressure specs, see the SAAMI centerfire rifle standard, or read the history of the 6mm ARC.
Is this the right rifle for you?
If your rifle rides in a truck, gets rained on and leans against fence posts, the Cerakote and camo stock are made for that life. A 20-inch barrel keeps the rifle short and balanced without giving up much velocity.
Picking ammunition
Start with a couple of quality factory loads and see which groups tighter. Once you find it, buy enough of the same lot to get through the season. Hunting loads cost more, but they’re made to expand and hold together on game. Use them in the field and cheaper ammo for practice.
Hunting rules are set state by state. Start at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hunting page for federal lands, then check your state agency for seasons and caliber limits.
Getting it zeroed
Plan a full session for the first trip. Get on paper at 25 yards, then zero at 100 and shoot a few groups so you know what the rifle and load can do. The 6mm ARC really shines past 300 yards, so once you’re zeroed, it’s worth getting time at longer distances and writing down your drops.

Care and storage
Store the Howa Fence Line 6mm ARC 20 Inch unloaded, in a dry place, with the magazine out. After rain or snow, dry it off and wipe the metal down before you case it. A clean, lightly oiled bore and tight action screws are most of what keeps a Howa shooting the way it did on day one.
Shipping to your FFL dealer
Federal law requires rifles bought online to go through a licensed dealer. Pick an FFL near you at checkout, and we’ll ship the Howa Fence Line 6mm ARC 20 Inch there. You’ll complete the paperwork and background check when you pick it up. For the federal side, see the ATF firearms Q&A. Your state may add its own rules, so look those up too.
