Description
The Howa Fence Line 6mm ARC Scorched Earth is a 6mm ARC bolt action rifle with a 22-inch threaded barrel, a Scorched Earth camo synthetic stock and 5-round capacity. Price is $604, and we have it in stock. It’s a solid match for deer, pronghorn and long-range targets.
Howa Fence Line 6mm ARC Scorched Earth features
The Fence Line series is the Howa 1500 dressed for the field. The barreled action gets a Cerakote finish, the synthetic stock comes in camo, and the threaded barrel ships with a muzzle brake.
The 1500 action is made by Howa Machinery in Japan. It’s a two-lug, push-feed action with a one-piece bolt, and the three-position safety lets you run the bolt on safe so you can unload without firing.
The HACT (Howa Actuator Controlled Trigger) is a two-stage trigger. There’s a light take-up stage, then a crisp break, which makes it easier to shoot well from field positions. The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28, so you can fit a brake, flash hider or suppressor where your state allows it. It ships with a muzzle brake installed, which noticeably cuts felt recoil and muzzle rise.
What the 6mm ARC is good for
Hornady designed the 6mm ARC (Advanced Rifle Cartridge) and released it in 2020. It’s based on the 6.5 Grendel case necked to 6mm and fits AR-15 length magazines. It gives long-range performance from a short, light action. Shooters use it for steel out past 800 yards, and with good hunting bullets it handles deer and pronghorn at sensible distances.
Factory loads use 103 to 108 grain high-BC bullets for target work and lighter bullets for hunting. A fast twist like 1:7.5 is what those long bullets need. SAAMI sets the industry dimensions for this round; the SAAMI centerfire rifle standard lists them. There’s also a good summary of the history of the 6mm ARC.

Who should buy it
If your rifle rides in a truck, gets rained on and leans against fence posts, the Cerakote and camo stock are made for that life.
Best 6mm ARC loads for this rifle
Try a few factory loads before you settle on one. Barrels have preferences, and a 20-minute test at the range tells you which load to buy in bulk. When you hunt with it, zero with the exact hunting load you’ll carry, since a different bullet can land an inch or two away at 100 yards.
Before the season, check your state’s rules on legal cartridges and hunter education. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has a good starting point for public land hunting and state contacts.
Getting it zeroed
Plan a full session for the first trip. Get on paper at 25 yards, then zero at 100 and shoot a few groups so you know what the rifle and load can do. The 6mm ARC really shines past 300 yards, so once you’re zeroed, it’s worth getting time at longer distances and writing down your drops.
