Why choose Howa M1100 22LR Rifles

It’s for plinkers, squirrel hunters and anyone teaching a new shooter.

Why a .22LR bolt action?

The .22 Long Rifle dates back to 1887 and is still the most-fired cartridge in the world. It’s a rimfire round, so the priming compound sits in the rim of the case and there’s nothing to reload. It’s the round for plinking, squirrels, rabbits and teaching new shooters. Recoil is close to nothing and the report is mild, so you can shoot a few hundred rounds in an afternoon without a sore shoulder. Most loads use 36 to 40 grain bullets, from standard-velocity target ammo to high-velocity hunting rounds. Ammo is cheap and on every store shelf, which is half the appeal.

A bolt action is also a good teacher. Each shot is deliberate, and new shooters learn to load, cycle and clear the rifle step by step. The SAAMI rimfire standard sets the dimensions every .22LR rifle and cartridge is made to.

For cartridge specs, SAAMI publishes the industry standards. If you’re buying for a hunt, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hunting page links to public land and state agencies.
