Description
The Howa Gamepro 2 7mm PRC is a 7mm PRC bolt action rifle with a 24-inch barrel, a brown Hogue OverMolded stock and 3-round capacity. A Nikko Stirling GamePro 4-12x40mm scope comes with it. It’s priced at $684 and in stock now. Most buyers pick it for elk, mule deer and long-range targets.
Howa Gamepro 2 7mm PRC features
Howa’s Gamepro 2 package bundles the 1500 action, a pillar-bedded Hogue OverMolded stock and a mounted Nikko Stirling scope. It’s aimed at hunters who want one purchase and a short trip to the range.
Underneath it all is the Howa 1500, a Japanese-made two-lug action that’s been in production since 1979. The bolt is one piece, and the safety has three positions, the middle one letting you unload with the rifle on safe.
The HACT (Howa Actuator Controlled Trigger) is a two-stage trigger. There’s a light take-up stage, then a crisp break, which makes it easier to shoot well from field positions.
The 7mm PRC cartridge
Hornady released the 7mm PRC in 2022. It’s a long-action magnum designed around very long, heavy 7mm bullets. It’s built for elk, mule deer and long-range shooting. It carries a lot of energy far out, so it’s a serious choice for western hunts.
Factory loads use 160 to 180 grain bullets. The 1:8 twist is fast enough for the long 175 and 180 grain bullets the round was designed for. For chamber and pressure specs, see the SAAMI centerfire rifle standard, or read the history of the 7mm PRC.
The scope on the Howa Gamepro 2 7mm PRC
This rifle comes with a Nikko Stirling GamePro 4-12x40mm scope. A 4 to 12 power scope covers most hunting: low power for close shots in timber, more magnification for fields and cut lines. Plan on a box of ammo to zero it and confirm your holds before the season.

Who should buy it
It’s for the hunter who’d rather buy one box and head to the range than piece a setup together. The 24-inch barrel gets the most velocity out of the cartridge, which helps at longer range.
Picking ammunition
Every rifle has loads it likes. Buy two or three different factory loads, shoot groups with each at 100 yards and stick with the one that groups best. For game, choose a bonded or controlled-expansion bullet. Practice ammo is fine for paper but not for animals.
Seasons, legal calibers and hunter education rules vary by state. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hunting page links to state wildlife agencies and public land where you can hunt.
Your first range trip
Bring a solid rest, a few targets and at least two boxes of ammo. Start at 25 yards to get on paper, then move to 100 and make your final adjustments with three-shot groups. The 7mm PRC really shines past 300 yards, so once you’re zeroed, it’s worth getting time at longer distances and writing down your drops.
