Howa Gamepro 2 22-250 Green features
Howa’s Gamepro 2 package bundles the 1500 action, a pillar-bedded Hogue OverMolded stock and a mounted Nikko Stirling scope. It’s aimed at hunters who want one purchase and a short trip to the range.
Howa Machinery has built the 1500 action in Japan since 1979. It uses a one-piece bolt with two locking lugs and a 90-degree lift, plus a three-position safety. The middle position lets you cycle the bolt and unload with the safety on.
The HACT (Howa Actuator Controlled Trigger) is a two-stage trigger. There’s a light take-up stage, then a crisp break, which makes it easier to shoot well from field positions.
Why .22-250 Remington?
The .22-250 Remington started life as a wildcat on the .250 Savage case and became a factory round in 1965. It’s one of the fastest .22 centerfires you can buy off the shelf. Varmint hunters use it for long, flat shots at prairie dogs, groundhogs and coyotes. With light bullets it can push past 3,600 feet per second, so holdover stays small out to 300 yards and beyond.
Factory loads mostly use 35 to 55 grain bullets. The 1:12 twist is built for those lighter bullets; heavy 70-plus grain match bullets need a faster twist than this. If you want the technical side, the SAAMI centerfire rifle standard covers chamber dimensions and pressure. Here’s the history of the .22-250 Remington too.
The included scope
This rifle comes with a Nikko Stirling GamePro 4-12x40mm scope. A 4 to 12 power scope covers most hunting: low power for close shots in timber, more magnification for fields and cut lines. Plan on a box of ammo to zero it and confirm your holds before the season.

Who should buy it
It’s for the hunter who’d rather buy one box and head to the range than piece a setup together.
Picking ammunition
Every rifle has loads it likes. Buy two or three different factory loads, shoot groups with each at 100 yards and stick with the one that groups best. When you hunt with it, zero with the exact hunting load you’ll carry, since a different bullet can land an inch or two away at 100 yards.
Before the season, check your state’s rules on legal cartridges and hunter education. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has a good starting point for public land hunting and state contacts.
Getting it zeroed
Bring a solid rest, a few targets and at least two boxes of ammo. Start at 25 yards to get on paper, then move to 100 and make your final adjustments with three-shot groups. Once you’re zeroed, shoot from sitting and kneeling too, since that’s how most field shots happen.

Care and storage
Store the Howa Gamepro 2 22-250 Green unloaded, in a dry place, with the magazine out. After rain or snow, dry it off and wipe the metal down before you case it. A clean, lightly oiled bore and tight action screws are most of what keeps a Howa shooting the way it did on day one.
