Description
Our Howa TSP X 6.5 PRC is a TSP X bolt gun in 6.5 PRC. It comes with a 24-inch threaded barrel, a aluminum TSP X chassis and 5-round capacity. A Nikko Stirling 4-16x50mm scope comes with it. It sells for $1,276, and it’s in stock. If you want one rifle for deer, pronghorn and long-range targets, this is a good place to start.
What you get with the Howa TSP X 6.5 PRC
The TSP X sets the Howa 1500 in an aluminum chassis made for precision work. It’s heavy on purpose: the weight soaks up recoil and keeps the rifle steady on a bipod or bag.
Every Howa 1500 starts with a forged and machined receiver and a one-piece bolt with two lugs. The three-position safety has a middle setting that lets you work the bolt to unload while the rifle stays on safe.
The HACT (Howa Actuator Controlled Trigger) is a two-stage trigger. There’s a light take-up stage, then a crisp break, which makes it easier to shoot well from field positions. A threaded muzzle means you can add a muzzle brake or a suppressor later where local law allows.

The scope on the Howa TSP X 6.5 PRC
This rifle comes with a Nikko Stirling 4-16x50mm scope. 4 to 16 power with a 50mm objective gives you enough magnification for steel at distance and a bright picture at dawn and dusk. Before the first hunt, check the ring screws, then zero at 100 yards with the ammo you plan to hunt with.
The 6.5 PRC cartridge
The 6.5 PRC (Precision Rifle Cartridge) is a Hornady design from 2018. It’s a short magnum built to push long 6.5mm bullets faster than the 6.5 Creedmoor. It shoots flatter and carries more energy than the 6.5 Creedmoor, which makes it a long-range target round and a good choice for deer, pronghorn and sheep at distance.
Factory loads use 130 to 156 grain bullets, with 143 and 147 grain loads being common. The 1:8 twist suits those long bullets. If you want the technical side, the SAAMI centerfire rifle standard covers chamber dimensions and pressure.
Who this rifle is for
It suits bench and prone shooting more than long hikes. The 24-inch barrel gets the most velocity out of the cartridge, which helps at longer range.
Picking ammunition
Start with a couple of quality factory loads and see which groups tighter. Once you find it, buy enough of the same lot to get through the season. For hunting, use a bullet built for the game you’re after, and save the cheap full metal jacket ammo for practice.
Hunting rules are set state by state. Start at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hunting page for federal lands, then check your state agency for seasons and caliber limits.
Your first range trip
Set up at 25 yards first so your first shots land on paper. Then move back to 100 yards and adjust in small steps, firing three-shot groups and letting the barrel cool between them. The 6.5 PRC really shines past 300 yards, so once you’re zeroed, it’s worth getting time at longer distances and writing down your drops.
