Description

The Howa APC 308 Win Grayscale Flag is a .308 Winchester bolt action rifle with a 24-inch barrel, a APC aluminum chassis with American Flag Grayscale Cerakote and 10-round capacity. A Nikko Stirling Diamond 4-16x50mm scope comes with it. Price is $1,498, and we have it in stock. Most buyers pick it for deer, hogs, black bear and targets.

Howa APC 308 Win Grayscale Flag features

The APC is Howa’s full precision rifle. The 1500 action sits in an aluminum chassis with a 6-position Luth-AR MBA-4 buttstock, so you can set length of pull and cheek height for prone or bench work.

The 1500 action is the reason Howa has such a following. It’s simple, strong and made in Japan, with a one-piece two-lug bolt and a three-position safety you can unload on.

It has a two-stage trigger with a short first stage and a clean break. The Luth-AR stock adjusts for length of pull and cheek height, so you can get a straight line of sight through the scope. A 6 to 9 inch adjustable bipod is included.

The included scope

This rifle comes with a Nikko Stirling Diamond 4-16x50mm scope. 4 to 16 power with a 50mm objective gives you enough magnification for steel at distance and a bright picture at dawn and dusk. Before the first hunt, check the ring screws, then zero at 100 yards with the ammo you plan to hunt with.

The .308 Winchester cartridge

The .308 Winchester came out in 1952 as the commercial version of what became the 7.62x51mm NATO. It’s one of the most common big-game and target rounds in the world. It handles deer, hogs, black bear and, with good bullets, elk at moderate range. It’s also a classic target round, and ammo is easy to find in almost any store.

Factory loads run from 125 to 180 grains, with 150, 165, 168 and 175 grain bullets the most common. The 1:10 twist handles all of them. For chamber and pressure specs, see the SAAMI centerfire rifle standard, or read the history of the .308 Winchester.

Is this the right rifle for you?

It’s for long-range shooters, PRS-style competitors and anyone who shoots prone off a bipod. The 24-inch barrel gets the most velocity out of the cartridge, which helps at longer range.

Best .308 Winchester loads for this rifle

Start with a couple of quality factory loads and see which groups tighter. Once you find it, buy enough of the same lot to get through the season. For game, choose a bonded or controlled-expansion bullet. Practice ammo is fine for paper but not for animals.

Before the season, check your state’s rules on legal cartridges and hunter education. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has a good starting point for public land hunting and state contacts.

Your first range trip

Plan a full session for the first trip. Get on paper at 25 yards, then zero at 100 and shoot a few groups so you know what the rifle and load can do. The .308 Winchester really shines past 300 yards, so once you’re zeroed, it’s worth getting time at longer distances and writing down your drops.

Setting up your Howa APC 308 Win Grayscale Flag

Before you shoot it, run a patch through the bore to clear out any shipping oil and check that the action screws are snug. The scope is already mounted, so check the ring screws with a torque driver before you zero. Zero at 100 yards, then check where your load lands at the distances you actually shoot.
