Description
The Howa Mini Excel Lite 350 Legend is Howa’s Mini Excel Lite rifle chambered in .350 Legend, built with a 16.25-inch threaded barrel, a adjustable Luth-AR stock and 3-round capacity. A Nikko Stirling GamePro 3.5-10x44mm scope comes with it. It sells for $819, and it’s in stock. It’s a solid match for deer in straight-wall states.
Howa Mini Excel Lite 350 Legend features
Howa’s Mini Excel Lite pairs the compact Mini Action with a heavy threaded barrel and an adjustable Luth-AR buttstock, so you can set length of pull to fit you.
The 1500 action is made by Howa Machinery in Japan. It’s a two-lug, push-feed action with a one-piece bolt, and the three-position safety lets you run the bolt on safe so you can unload without firing.
The two-stage match trigger takes up a short, light first stage and then breaks cleanly, which helps when you’re squeezing off a careful shot. The muzzle is threaded 5/8×24, so you can fit a brake, flash hider or suppressor where your state allows it. The Luth-AR stock adjusts for length of pull and cheek height, so you can get a straight line of sight through the scope. The heavy barrel profile holds heat better and keeps groups steadier through longer strings than a sporter barrel.
The .350 Legend cartridge
Winchester introduced the .350 Legend in 2019. It’s a straight-walled cartridge, made for states that only allow straight-wall rifle rounds for deer. It’s built for whitetail in places like Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Iowa where rules limit rifle cartridges. Recoil is light and it’s effective inside about 200 yards.
Factory loads use 145 to 180 grain bullets. It’s also cheaper to shoot than most bottlenecked deer rounds. For chamber and pressure specs, see the SAAMI centerfire rifle standard, or read the history of the .350 Legend.
Howa Mini Excel Lite 350 Legend optic
This rifle comes with a Nikko Stirling GamePro 3.5-10x44mm scope. 3.5 to 10 power is about right for deer hunting: wide enough at the bottom for close shots and enough magnification for longer ones. Plan on a box of ammo to zero it and confirm your holds before the season.

Who this rifle is for
It’s a good choice if several people in the family will shoot it, since the stock adjusts in seconds. The short barrel keeps it handy in vehicles and blinds, and it’s well suited to a suppressor.
Picking ammunition
Try a few factory loads before you settle on one. Barrels have preferences, and a 20-minute test at the range tells you which load to buy in bulk. For game, choose a bonded or controlled-expansion bullet. Practice ammo is fine for paper but not for animals.
Hunting rules are set state by state. Start at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hunting page for federal lands, then check your state agency for seasons and caliber limits.
Getting it zeroed
Bring a solid rest, a few targets and at least two boxes of ammo. Start at 25 yards to get on paper, then move to 100 and make your final adjustments with three-shot groups. Most .350 Legend shooting happens inside 200 yards, so confirm your zero at 50 and 100 and learn where it hits at 150.

Breaking in and cleaning the Howa Mini Excel Lite 350 Legend
You don’t need a long break-in routine. Clean the bore after the first few range sessions to get the copper out, then clean it whenever accuracy starts to drop off. Keep a thin coat of oil on exposed steel, especially after a wet day in the field.
