Description
The Howa Superlite 6.5 Creedmoor Scoped is Howa’s Superlite rifle chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, built with a 16.25-inch barrel, a gray and green Stocky’s carbon fiber stock with black webbing and 4-round capacity. A Vortex riflescope comes with it. It’s priced at $1,302 and in stock now. It’s a solid match for deer, black bear and long-range targets.
Inside the Howa Superlite 6.5 Creedmoor Scoped
The Superlite is Howa’s lightweight mountain rifle. The action and barrel are trimmed for weight, and the carbon fiber stock keeps the whole rifle easy to carry on long climbs.
The 1500 action is made by Howa Machinery in Japan. It’s a two-lug, push-feed action with a one-piece bolt, and the three-position safety lets you run the bolt on safe so you can unload without firing.
A Picatinny rail on top makes mounting a scope quick.
The 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge
Hornady introduced the 6.5 Creedmoor in 2007 as a match cartridge. It caught on with hunters too, and it’s now one of the best-selling rifle rounds in the US. It fires long, high-BC bullets that hold their speed and resist wind, so it’s popular for target shooting from 300 to 1,000 yards. With the right bullet it’s a proven deer and black bear round, and recoil is noticeably lighter than a .308.
Factory loads usually run 120 to 147 grains. The standard 1:8 twist stabilizes the long 140 and 147 grain match bullets as well as lighter hunting bullets. SAAMI sets the industry dimensions for this round; the SAAMI centerfire rifle standard lists them. There’s also a good summary of the history of the 6.5 Creedmoor.
The scope on the Howa Superlite 6.5 Creedmoor Scoped
This rifle comes with a Vortex riflescope. It’s mounted from the factory, so you only need to zero it. Zero it at 100 yards with your hunting load and confirm at the distance you expect to shoot.

Is this the right rifle for you?
It’s made for backcountry and mountain hunters who count every ounce. The short barrel keeps it handy in vehicles and blinds, and it’s well suited to a suppressor.
Choosing 6.5 Creedmoor ammo
Start with a couple of quality factory loads and see which groups tighter. Once you find it, buy enough of the same lot to get through the season. When you hunt with it, zero with the exact hunting load you’ll carry, since a different bullet can land an inch or two away at 100 yards.
Before the season, check your state’s rules on legal cartridges and hunter education. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has a good starting point for public land hunting and state contacts.
At the range
Bring a solid rest, a few targets and at least two boxes of ammo. Start at 25 yards to get on paper, then move to 100 and make your final adjustments with three-shot groups. The 6.5 Creedmoor really shines past 300 yards, so once you’re zeroed, it’s worth getting time at longer distances and writing down your drops.

Care and storage
Store the Howa Superlite 6.5 Creedmoor Scoped unloaded, in a dry place, with the magazine out. After rain or snow, dry it off and wipe the metal down before you case it. A clean, lightly oiled bore and tight action screws are most of what keeps a Howa shooting the way it did on day one.
