Description
The Howa Mini Hunter 350 Legend is a .350 Legend bolt action rifle with a 16.25-inch threaded barrel, a walnut stock and 3-round capacity. It sells for $624, and it’s in stock. It’s a solid match for deer in straight-wall states.
Inside the Howa Mini Hunter 350 Legend
Howa’s Mini Action is about 12 percent shorter than a standard short action. Put it in a walnut stock and you get a light, traditional-looking hunting rifle that still runs modern cartridges.
The 1500 action is made by Howa Machinery in Japan. It’s a two-lug, push-feed action with a one-piece bolt, and the three-position safety lets you run the bolt on safe so you can unload without firing.
The two-stage match trigger takes up a short, light first stage and then breaks cleanly, which helps when you’re squeezing off a careful shot. A threaded muzzle means you can add a muzzle brake or a suppressor later where local law allows.
The .350 Legend cartridge
Winchester introduced the .350 Legend in 2019. It’s a straight-walled cartridge, made for states that only allow straight-wall rifle rounds for deer. It’s built for whitetail in places like Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Iowa where rules limit rifle cartridges. Recoil is light and it’s effective inside about 200 yards.
Factory loads use 145 to 180 grain bullets. It’s also cheaper to shoot than most bottlenecked deer rounds. If you want the technical side, the SAAMI centerfire rifle standard covers chamber dimensions and pressure. Here’s the history of the .350 Legend too.

Is this the right rifle for you?
Think of it as a classic deer rifle scaled down. It’s quick to the shoulder in brush and easy to carry on a long sit. The short barrel keeps it handy in vehicles and blinds, and it’s well suited to a suppressor.
Picking ammunition
Start with a couple of quality factory loads and see which groups tighter. Once you find it, buy enough of the same lot to get through the season. For hunting, use a bullet built for the game you’re after, and save the cheap full metal jacket ammo for practice.
Hunting rules are set state by state. Start at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hunting page for federal lands, then check your state agency for seasons and caliber limits.
More about the Howa Mini Action walnut
This is the Mini Action in a walnut stock. You get the short, light action built for AR-sized cartridges, with its shorter bolt throw, set in wood instead of synthetic.
At the range
Set up at 25 yards first so your first shots land on paper. Then move back to 100 yards and adjust in small steps, firing three-shot groups and letting the barrel cool between them. Most .350 Legend shooting happens inside 200 yards, so confirm your zero at 50 and 100 and learn where it hits at 150.

Wipe down the Howa Mini Hunter 350 Legend after every outing, more so after rain. A safe or cabinet with a dehumidifier keeps rust away, and a quick check of the action screws each season keeps your zero where you left it.
