Howa Mini Action 22 ARC features

The Mini Action is Howa’s answer to AR-sized cartridges in a bolt gun. The action, bolt and chamber are about 12 percent shorter than a standard short action, so the bolt throw is shorter and the rifle is lighter and quicker to cycle.

Underneath it all is the Howa 1500, a Japanese-made two-lug action that’s been in production since 1979. The bolt is one piece, and the safety has three positions, the middle one letting you unload with the rifle on safe.

It has a two-stage trigger with a short first stage and a clean break. A threaded muzzle (5/8×24) means you can add a muzzle brake or a suppressor later where local law allows.

Why 22 ARC?

The 22 ARC is a Hornady cartridge introduced in 2023. It takes the 6mm ARC case and necks it down to .224, so it fits AR-15 length magazines and short actions. It was built to shoot heavy, high-BC .22 bullets at useful speeds, which makes it a strong pick for steel targets, PRS-style practice and varmints at distance. Recoil is about as light as centerfire gets.

Factory loads use 62 to 88 grain bullets. A fast twist like 1:7 is needed to stabilize the long heavy bullets the round was designed around. SAAMI sets the industry dimensions for this round; the SAAMI centerfire rifle standard lists them.
