Inside the Howa 1500 Hogue 7mm PRC
The Hogue model pairs the Howa 1500 barreled action with a Hogue OverMolded stock. The stock is pillar-bedded, and the rubber overmold gives a soft, grippy surface that doesn’t get slick in rain or cold.
The 1500 action is the reason Howa has such a following. It’s simple, strong and made in Japan, with a one-piece two-lug bolt and a three-position safety you can unload on.
The HACT (Howa Actuator Controlled Trigger) is a two-stage trigger. There’s a light take-up stage, then a crisp break, which makes it easier to shoot well from field positions.
The 7mm PRC cartridge
Hornady released the 7mm PRC in 2022. It’s a long-action magnum designed around very long, heavy 7mm bullets. It’s built for elk, mule deer and long-range shooting. It carries a lot of energy far out, so it’s a serious choice for western hunts.

Start with a couple of quality factory loads and see which groups tighter. Once you find it, buy enough of the same lot to get through the season. For game, choose a bonded or controlled-expansion bullet. Practice ammo is fine for paper but not for animals.

Breaking in and cleaning the Howa 1500 Hogue 7mm PRC
