Description
The Howa 1500 Super Deluxe 25 Creedmoor is a 25 Creedmoor bolt action rifle with a 22-inch threaded barrel, a Turkish walnut stock and 5-round capacity. It sells for $798, and it’s in stock. If you want one rifle for deer and long-range targets, this is a good place to start.
What you get with the Howa 1500 Super Deluxe 25 Creedmoor
Howa’s Super Deluxe pairs the 1500 action with a Turkish walnut stock, a two-stage match trigger and a threaded muzzle. It’s a hunting rifle you’ll want to keep for a long time.
Howa Machinery has built the 1500 action in Japan since 1979. It uses a one-piece bolt with two locking lugs and a 90-degree lift, plus a three-position safety. The middle position lets you cycle the bolt and unload with the safety on.
The two-stage match trigger takes up a short, light first stage and then breaks cleanly, which helps when you’re squeezing off a careful shot. The barrel is threaded 1/2×28 at the muzzle and ships with a thread protector, ready for a brake or can.
The 25 Creedmoor cartridge
The 25 Creedmoor is one of Hornady’s newest cartridges. It’s the 6.5 Creedmoor case necked up to .257, made to shoot long, heavy .25 caliber bullets. It sits between the 6.5 Creedmoor and the bigger .25s, with a flat trajectory and modest recoil. It works for deer-sized game and for long-range target shooting.
Factory loads center on high-BC bullets around 128 to 134 grains. The 1:7.5 twist on this rifle is set up for exactly those bullets. SAAMI sets the industry dimensions for this round; the SAAMI centerfire rifle standard lists them.

Who this rifle is for
It’s for hunters who appreciate good wood and want a rifle that looks as good as it shoots.
Choosing 25 Creedmoor ammo
Start with a couple of quality factory loads and see which groups tighter. Once you find it, buy enough of the same lot to get through the season. When you hunt with it, zero with the exact hunting load you’ll carry, since a different bullet can land an inch or two away at 100 yards.
Seasons, legal calibers and hunter education rules vary by state. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hunting page links to state wildlife agencies and public land where you can hunt.
More about the Howa Super Deluxe
The Super Deluxe is the fanciest wood-stocked Howa 1500. It comes in a Turkish walnut stock with a rubber recoil pad and a threaded barrel.
At the range
Set up at 25 yards first so your first shots land on paper. Then move back to 100 yards and adjust in small steps, firing three-shot groups and letting the barrel cool between them. The 25 Creedmoor really shines past 300 yards, so once you’re zeroed, it’s worth getting time at longer distances and writing down your drops.

Setting up your Howa 1500 Super Deluxe 25 Creedmoor
Before you shoot it, run a patch through the bore to clear out any shipping oil and check that the action screws are snug. Pick rings or a base that suit the scope you plan to run, and use a torque driver on the ring screws. Zero at 100 yards, then check where your load lands at the distances you actually shoot.
